Cappella Sant’Andrea is a family-run winery just outside the Medieval city of San Gimignano that was purchased in the 1950s by Giovanni Leoncini and slowly grew to become the traditional and innovative organic farm that it is today, managed by his granddaughter Flavia del Seta and her husband Francesco.

Planting a vineyard is like becoming one with earth, establishing a partnership with a piece of land and committing to that specific place where we want to stay and await the results of our work

About the Winery;

The meticulous vineyard work is driven by love and wisdom.  This is Flavia’s and Francesco’s approach, which is also adopted by the experienced seniors and novel apprentices that give a helping hand during harvest. It is mostly during this time that the work experiences “the meeting point between different generations that keeps traditions alive.” Care and patience are the main companions to the work undertaken in the cellar. Where the wines are vinified and aged. Between the traditional stainless steel vats and oak barrels.

There is also a touch of courage and pride in the use of innovative large earthenware jars or amphoras. Which were once used by the Etruscans that lived around San Gimignano before the Romans. A return to such an ancient tradition may now be considered an innovative leap. This use of a naturally porous material that enhances the aromas and flavors that are already present in the wine. Perfectly describes Cappella di Sant’Andrea’s work juggling tradition and innovation.

Never forgetting “to approach the earth with great humility and respect. For this reason we chose to be organic.”

Le Maritate IGT Toscana | Cappella Sant Andrea

This genuine young wine is produced from old vines that come from a traditional Tuscan field that wasn’t exclusive to vines; these “promiscuous” vineyards were frequently interlaced with olive trees or other cultivars. When other plants were used to assist the vine’s growth, the vines were referred to as “maritate” or wedded. The mixed, red and white grape varietals native to Tuscany grow interwoven with field maples, small trees that have become life-long companions to the vines.
