Campo Corto is a family-run farm in the northern part of the Chianti Classico, not far from Panzano in Chianti. Although Panzano is under the municipality of Greve in Chianti, the Panzanese are rightfully proud of their town’s unique “Golden Basin” (Conca d’Oro in Italian), and its extraordinary and unique characteristics and microclimate. The Campo Corto winery is just outside Panzano in Chianti, and its name means short field.

A great little garden in the heart of Chianti Classico, the very modest production, allows that all phases are attended to in detail and with great passion and love.

About the Winery

This small winery with its small lake and olive grove, regained its vitality and productivity in the early ‘80s thanks to Marco Monnecchi. Tired of the city life and the busy world of advertising and graphic arts. Marco decided to step away from Florence to dedicate his time and energy to cultivating his new land. And his love of painting!

Unsurprisingly, as the uncultivated fields that were overgrown with wild vegetation, began to be shaped into neat rows of vineyards. Most of his paintings, also began to feature the Campo Corto surroundings.

Rural landscapes and harvesting workers began to decorate his family home, as well as occupying his working life.

Since the very beginning Marco wanted to prioritize quality over quantity. With a small production of just two different wines, and choice extra virgin olive oil. For an organic (although un-certified) production of just 2500 yearly bottles. It really is just a short field. But “because of the very modest production, they are able to attend to all the phases in great detail. From the care of the vine which delivers the wines, to the attention to detail in the cellar.

And all the way to the bottling, sure enough. A vertical tasting of a few different vintages of Marco’s wines,

Campo Corto Chianti Classico

will quickly show how each wine and vintage is as unique as one of his paintings. Each plot is vinified and harvested separately and wines are never blended with other vintages. Each wine and vintage is an unprecedented composition of aromas and flavors, body and persistence. Just like the conditions of the vintage itself.

Together with his wife Paola and son Marcello, they are able to personally oversee all the production phases of their vines and cellar. The wine’s harmony, balance and ultimate perfection is reflected in the label which was designed by Marco himself. Inspired by the principles of order and natural proportion which were so popular during the Florence Renaissance.
